Artist

Naimal Khawar is a Pakistani visual artist and painter based in Islamabad. She graduated with distinction from the National College of Arts (NCA), Pakistan, and continued to develop her painting practice through further study at University of the Arts London.

Working primarily in oil, Khawar’s practice explores femininity, identity, memory and the interior worlds women create for themselves.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My work explores the interior worlds women construct when the world around them feels limiting. I am interested in the private spaces we create through memory, imagination, nature and dreams, and how these spaces can become places of refuge and freedom.

My paintings exist somewhere between reality and escape. Figures appear immersed within landscapes and imagined environments that become extensions of their inner lives. These spaces are not simply places of retreat, they represent autonomy, possibility and the freedom to exist beyond prescribed roles.

Working primarily in oil, I use colour, atmosphere and figurative imagery to create worlds that feel both familiar and unreachable, places where a woman may temporarily step outside expectation and belong entirely to herself.
